ECommerce Technical Lead

L.L.Bean is looking for an experienced Ecommerce Tech Lead to join our Information Services (IS) team. In this role, you will lead the design and development of scalable, high‑impact ecommerce solutions that support key business initiatives. You’ll provide technical leadership across complex projects that span multiple systems, while staying hands‑on with coding and production support.

The ideal candidate has strong experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), commercetools, and front-end technologies such as JavaScript, and is adept with the React framework. You will partner with business and technical teams to evaluate requirements, design practical solutions, and deliver high‑quality applications using industry best practices.

Please note: This role can be based at our corporate headquarters in Freeport, Maine, remote/virtual, or some combination.  Our HQ facilities in Freeport, Maine have just been renovated and it is an incredible facility with on-site cafeteria and fitness facilities.

Responsibilities:

• Demonstrates technical leadership within team and provides technical leadership on complex projects and baseline support.

• Works Product, UX and other Business area partners to identify business requirements, scope, feasibility, performance, security, test strategies, and test execution.

• Develops complex integration requirements and partners with the integration developer to implement.

• Extremely current technology knowledge and a demonstrated high level of interest and aptitude in technical areas.

• Has a learning mentality and takes initiative to enhance your technical skillset, embrace new technologies and tools and mentor others

• Expert skills at evaluating new solutions within the context of an existing solution.

• Recognizes and promotes the need for code refactoring when appropriate.

• Expert design skills and exceptional development output, responsible for application design (high level and micro), development, testing, debugging and documentation for multiple applications.

• Ensures designs and solutions take performance, cost and security into consideration.

• Assesses new work and provides options for and estimates of possible solutions

• Participates in project planning and development and assumes responsibility for project scope including the guidance of others.

• Responsible for the technical work of multiple team members working with multiple technologies across multiple applications, including instructing, directing and validating their work. Manage any technical issues that arise during development and testing.

• Intensive business and vendor contact shaping the project deliverables, including requirements, scope, feasibility, performance, security, test strategy and execution.

• Coordinates integration activities between multiple technical teams.

• Works independently and collaboratively with team; provides regular updates to leader.

• Coordinate environment set-up: code releases, data loads, asset load, etc.

• Participate in or lead the selection, implementation and integration of packaged software.

• Acts as primary technical liaison to software vendors

• Conducts and participates in design and code reviews.

• Ensures the project team adheres to development standards and best coding practices.

• Ensures the project team adheres to security standards in support of PCI compliance.

• Coordinates production problem resolution for assigned applications, including working with other technical teams.

• On call – provides 24x7 day time and after hours on call support as part of an on-call rotation.

• Participates in the recruitment of team members both employees and contractor

• Build trusted relationships and regularly provides mentorship to technicians at all levels.

• Sought after resource by senior level business and IT executives.

• Master Troubleshooter.

• Act as an effective change agent, process savvy

May manage assigned personnel

• Establish performance objectives, assign/direct work, monitor progress and appraise performance

• Develop employees in job-related skills through work assignments, direct training and development plans, and provide regular feedback, both positive and developmental

• Recommend and administer wages and salaries of direct reports

• Communicate company policies and procedures and resolve routine personnel problems in accordance with them

Requirements include:

• 4-Year Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in computer science/technology

• 10+ years of experience in web-based or distributed application design and development, with involvement in all parts of the SDLC

• Experience in cloud-based technologies preferred

• Continuous Delivery & Integration (GitHub/Harness)

• Experienced with Unit Testing frameworks (jest)

• Performance Testing & Analysis (Locust.io)

• Real-time Application Monitoring and Alerting (Grafana, Splunk)

• API Specification (OpenAPI/Swagger)

• Cloud Databases (Mongo/Atlas, BigQuery)

• Modern IDE & Debugging Tools (MS Visual Studio Code)

• AI Development Tools (GitHub Copilot)

• Familiar with Content Delivery Networks (Akamai)

• Familiar with UNIX based OS

• Familiar with API Gateway Management (Apigee, CloudEndpoints, Istio)
