About the team and the role:

eBay, Inc. seeks MTS 1, Software Engineer in San Jose, CA

What you will accomplish:

Job Duties: Architect and develop Vector Search Infrastructure specifically VectorDB. Lead the architecture and development of eBay’s vector search infrastructure, utilizing extensive expertise in distributed storage, database internals, and large-scale computing. Evaluate complex system challenges, make important architectural decisions, and ensure that implementations meet both business and technical objectives. Implement eBay’s real-time vector search solution, improving the existing patent-pending design with focus on performance optimization, query efficiency, and real-time indexing. Utilizing knowledge in distributed computing, storage, and cloud-native architectures to enhance retrieval accuracy while minimizing search latencies for large-scale workloads. Mentor engineers at varying experience levels, providing guidance on best practices for distributed system design, indexing strategies, and large-scale data management. Ensure successful adoption of vector search technology and collaborate with internal engineering teams, AI/ML teams, and customer-facing groups to refine system configurations and enhance search efficiency based on real-world workloads. Telecommuting permitted – work may be performed from anywhere in the US. 

What you will bring:

Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus two years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation. Employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering or a closely related field plus five years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.

Special Skill Requirements:

1.    Designing, implementing, deploying and operating distributed highly available large scale databases (2 years)
2.    Experience developing highly available and high performance distributed database applications with multiple programming languages such as Java, C++ , Python (2 years)
3.    Experience using cloud computing infrastructure and deploying, debugging, maintaining  large scale distributed database applications on the cloud (2 years)
4.    Working experience with Linux like operating systems and able to perform triaging, debugging and maintenance operations using OS specific tools/utilities (2 years)


Salary: $226,138.00-280,900.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
