- As an Engineering Manager for the FordPay Payments Platform, you will lead a dynamic and highly skilled team of software engineers responsible for the evolution and operational excellence of our critical payment orchestration services.
- This role is pivotal in shaping the future of Ford's e-commerce payment capabilities, ensuring the platform meets stringent requirements for security, compliance, scalability, and performance. You will be responsible for managing and delivering products within the Ford Credit Fintech FordPay portfolio, supporting our markets across North America, Europe, and International Markets Group (IMG).
- You will work closely with Product Management, Operations, Risk & Compliance, and other engineering teams to deliver a best-in-class payments experience.
ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll do...
- Leadership & People Development:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers, overseeing hiring, performance management, and career development.
- Foster a strong team culture centered on collaboration, ownership, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
- Champion best practices in software development, testing, deployment, and operations.
- Actively work to identify and remove impediments and blockers, ensuring the team's efficiency and success.
- Technical Strategy & Execution:
- Contribute to the technical strategy and architectural vision for the FordPay platform, ensuring alignment with business goals and the overall company technology strategy.
- Facilitate technical architecture discussions, guiding the team in designing and implementing robust, scalable, and secure payment solutions.
- Oversee the technical roadmap for your team's domain to support product initiatives and proactively manage technical debt, while ensuring the platform's design prioritizes scalability, reliability, security, maintainability, high availability, disaster recovery, and fault tolerance.
- Champion best practices in software craftsmanship, including Test-Driven Development (TDD), Clean Code, Refactoring, and secure coding principles.
- Product Delivery & Operations:
- Oversee the complete software development lifecycle for your team's contributions to the payments platform, spanning planning, development, and deployment.
- Work closely with Product Management to ensure timely and high-quality feature delivery by implementing and refining agile development processes.
- Monitor platform performance, reliability, and operational health for your domain, and establish robust monitoring and alerting systems.
- Define and prioritize analytics collection to monitor product performance and inform strategic decisions.
- Verify that delivered software products meet desired business outcomes and gather user/stakeholder feedback to inform the product roadmap.
- Compliance & Industry Expertise:
- Ensure your team's work adheres to relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., PCI DSS, CFPB, KYC, GDPR/data privacy) through close collaboration with internal Risk, Compliance, and Security teams, as well as external PSP providers, on implementing necessary controls and participating in audits.
- Apply a deep understanding of complex payment flows, processing logic, reconciliation processes, and potential fraud vectors.
- Continuously stay current with trends and changes in the payments industry landscape.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:
- Partner closely with Product Management to translate business requirements into technical solutions and contribute to the platform roadmap.
- Collaborate with technical and operational teams including Operations, SRE, and Infrastructure on smooth deployments and operations.
- Work with various business stakeholders such as Finance, Sales, Subscriptions, Part & Accessories, and Ecommerce on relevant requirements.
- Communicate openly and frequently with the team and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and responsiveness.
QualificationsYou'll have...
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a significant portion focused on backend systems, distributed systems, or high availability secure platforms.
- 2+ years of experience in engineering leadership, including managing a team of individual contributors.
- Proven experience building and scaling complex payments systems, fintech platforms, or high-transaction volume financial applications.
- Strong understanding of payment processing concepts, flows (authorization, capture, refund, fraud etc.), and related technologies.
- Experience with security best practices and regulatory compliance relevant to payments (e.g., PCI DSS, data encryption, tokenization).
- Experience designing and implementing highly available, scalable, and reliable distributed systems.
- Proficiency in at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP) and experience with cloud-native architectures.
- Strong technical background in modern programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Java, Spring Boot, JavaScript, Node.js).
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., SQL, MongoDB, Cassandra).
- Proficiency in DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and security best practices (e.g., Cloud Build, SonarQube, Checkmarx, FOSSA, 42Crunch).

- Master's degree in a related technical field.
- Experience with specific payment types or networks (e.g., Card schemes like Visa/Mastercard, ACH, Wire transfers, Digital Wallets).
- Experience with microservices architecture and event-driven systems.
- Familiarity with fraud detection and risk management systems.
- Experience working in a regulated industry environment.
