Position Summary
The Sr. Manager of Software Engineering leads, scales, and develops a high performing team of software, DevOps and QA engineers responsible for building and maintaining digital solutions (e.g., Ecommerce website, mobile apps, in-store apps) that deliver exceptional customer experience in a retail environment. This position requires strong technical, design, communication, and collaboration skills. We have aggressive goals over the next few years and are looking for candidates with a passion for building and scaling retail applications and a can-do attitude!
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Development: Manage, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers. Conduct performance reviews, set goals, and support career development.
- Technical Oversight: Guide the design, development, and deployment of scalable applications using full stack technologies.
- Hands-On Contribution: Engage directly in coding, troubleshooting, and code reviews when needed to support the team or accelerate delivery.
- Project Management: Lead planning and execution of software projects. Ensure timely delivery, quality assurance, and alignment with business priorities.
- Architecture & Strategy: Drive architectural decisions and long-term technology strategy. Lead PoCs and evaluations for middleware, integration platforms, and development tools.
- DevOps & Cloud Enablement: Oversee CI/CD pipelines, cloud deployments (AWS, Azure, GCP), and infrastructure automation.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with business owners and business enablement managers to gather requirements and deliver integrated solutions.
- Compliance & Security: Ensure applications meet security, compliance, and regulatory standards. Promote secure coding practices and risk mitigation.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain documentation of systems, processes, and performance metrics. Provide regular updates to leadership.
- Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of learning, experimentation, and process optimization.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years in software engineering, with the last 3 years in leadership/managerial role. Proven experience managing full stack development teams and delivering enterprise-grade applications.
- Basic understanding of Salesforce Commerce Cloud (Demandware).
- Deep understanding of CI/CD principles, automation strategies, and modern SDLC best practices.
- Practical experience implementing these practices using developer platforms and tooling such as Azure DevOps, GitHub, and GitHub Actions.
- Hands-on experience with containerization technologies and orchestration frameworks within cloud-native architecture.
- Expertise in infrastructure-as-code and policy-as-code frameworks, with a focus on creating reusable templates and enforcing security and governance standards through automation.
- Demonstrated success leading large-scale transformations with incremental value delivery.
- Strong execution mindset, able to navigate ambiguity and deliver results.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical details to both technical and non-technical business stakeholders.
- Solid understanding of basic eCommerce concepts, such as catalog architecture, pricing, and inventory management strategies, payment processes, and technologies that support a successful eCommerce strategy such as PIM, OMS.
- Experience with support and/or implementing public-facing Web and Mobile applications.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- This role is based in our vibrant, collaborative office five days a week, with flexibility to accommodate family and life commitments when needed. Flexibility to work extended and varied hours as needed.
- Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time as the job is completed primarily at a desk each day. Variable desk heights are offered so alternatively sitting and/or standing at the desk is optional.
Travel:
- Up to 10% of travel is required based on business needs.
