We openly share our thoughts and differing opinions so we can continue to improve. We do our best to keep our decision-making decentralized so that all team members feel ownership in our success.

Our team is a collection of ambitious, collaborative and mission-driven people from all walks of life but with one goal: helping Canadian companies not just survive but thrive. And we’re looking for bold innovators to help shape the future of business finance in Canada.
We’re looking for a Director of Engineering, Emerging Products to lead Float’s most ambitious and exploratory product bets. You’ll be at the forefront of 0→1 product development, owning the technical strategy and execution of brand-new product lines that expand Float’s capabilities and customer reach.
From AI-enhanced spend intelligence, to real-time vendor payments, to automated treasury operations, your work will shape the next generation of financial tools for growing businesses. You’ll operate as both a technical strategist and hands-on leader - spinning up teams, validating ideas quickly, and scaling early wins into stable, secure, and scalable products.
Lead the end-to-end technical development of early-stage fintech products - from concept to MVP to early scale.
Design systems that prioritize speed, adaptability, and tight integration with core financial workflows.
Collaborate with product and data teams to embed AI into Float’s new offerings - think AI-assisted transaction categorization, anomaly detection, autonomous policy enforcement, or conversational finance assistants.
Establish engineering foundations for deploying LLM-based or ML-backed features in production securely and responsibly.
Build and lead small, cross-functional teams focused on rapid prototyping and delivery.
Coach engineers to operate with autonomy and velocity while maintaining technical quality and security standards.
Champion a culture of fast feedback loops, lean experimentation, and continuous customer validation.
Drive architecture and build decisions across domains like real-time payments, multi-party reconciliation, GL syncing, and embedded finance.
Collaborate with partners (e.g., card networks, accounting platforms, open banking providers) to integrate external capabilities into Float’s stack.
Ensure that all systems meet the rigor required for financial compliance, auditability, and trust.
You Put Customers First, Always. You care deeply about delivering meaningful value. Whether you're building internal systems or customer-facing features, you're always thinking about how to make life better for our users.
You Act Like an Owner. You take responsibility for outcomes, step up to challenges, and seek solutions proactively—doing what’s best for the business, not just your role.
You Think Big and Move Fast. You’re energized by building from 0 to 1. You’re not afraid to challenge the status quo, experiment quickly, and learn as you go.
You Constantly Learn and Grow. You’re hungry to improve your craft and open to feedback. You bring a growth mindset to everything you do.
You Raise the Bar. You care about doing things well and efficiently. You balance speed with rigor and always look for ways to improve how we work.
You Win as a Team. You’re a generous collaborator who values communication, context, and shared wins. You lift others up and help make the team stronger.
Required Competencies
10+ years of engineering experience, with 3+ years in senior leadership roles focused on new product development.
Demonstrated success leading 0→1 product initiatives, especially in fintech, B2B SaaS, or developer platform environments.
Demonstrated evidence in scaling engineering teams in dynamic environments.
Deep technical expertise in building secure, scalable software products; comfort navigating ambiguity and balancing speed vs. robustness.
Experience working with or implementing AI/ML solutions in production (e.g., data-driven features, model pipelines, LLM integrations).
Strong product instincts and user empathy, with a passion for solving customer pain points through tech.
Excellent communication and cross-functional leadership skills.
Preferred Competencies
Exposure to financial operations systems such as GL/accounting integrations, payments infrastructure, expense management, or credit products.
Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, event-driven systems, and modern security practices.
Understanding of the Canadian fintech landscape, open banking developments, or regulatory frameworks.
You need close day-to-day direction rather than working independently
You’re not energized by feedback or fast-paced change
You’re seeking predictability over adaptability
You’re not comfortable making decisions in ambiguous situations
You prefer to stay in your lane rather than collaborate cross-functionally
You don’t feel a strong connection to Float’s mission or the product we’re building
