Position Overview
The Senior Manager, Software Engineering & Quality Assurance will lead Holley’s engineering and QA organization responsible for building secure, scalable, and high-performance digital commerce solutions. This role requires a collaborative and people-first leader who thrives in agile environments, builds high-performing teams, solves complex technical problems, and serves as a strategic partner to the business.
With 8–10 years of experience in software engineering and digital commerce, and a deep understanding of SAFe Agile processes, this leader will play a pivotal role in driving development best practices, creating an environment of continuous improvement, and ensuring alignment between engineering output and business goals.
This is a full-time, onsite position. The role may be based at any Holley facility, depending on business needs and candidate location, but requires the employee to be physically onsite at a Holley location.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Collaborative Leadership
• Serve as a collaborative leader and coach, fostering strong partnerships across Product, Marketing, Sales, and IT to deliver business-aligned digital solutions.
• Support and contribute to long-term strategic roadmaps for eCommerce platforms and integration pipelines.
• Facilitate cross-team collaboration through program-level alignment and coordination, aligned with SAFe Agile practices.
Team Building & Talent Development
• Hire, mentor, and develop a diverse, high-performing team of engineers, QA analysts, and integration specialists.
• Fosters a strong sense of team cohesion and shared culture across onsite and remote software engineering teams operating in multiple regions.
• Lead with empathy, conducting 1:1s, career development planning, and growth conversations.
• Champion a culture of psychological safety, continuous learning, and internal mobility.
eCommerce Platform Delivery
• Lead the design, development, deployment, and optimization of modern digital commerce systems (web, mobile, and API-driven).
• Ensure solutions are user-centric, responsive, and conversion-optimized, in collaboration with UX and marketing stakeholders.
• Leverage data, A/B testing, and personalization to improve engagement and drive digital revenue.
Technical Execution & Problem Solving
• Act as a technical problem-solver and escalation point, supporting your teams through complex design, architectural, and performance issues.
• Guide hands-on solutions for system integration, application performance tuning, and infrastructure bottlenecks.
• Promote modern engineering practices (TDD, pair programming, refactoring, service isolation) and lead architecture/code reviews when needed.
Agile & DevOps Leadership
• Drive adoption of SAFe Agile principles, ensuring delivery is predictable, measurable, and aligned to business objectives.
• Champion engineering velocity via CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, automated testing, and progressive delivery techniques.
• Promote metrics-driven development: story cycle time, defect rates, test coverage, and deployment frequency.
Quality & Reliability
• Define and execute robust QA strategies across unit, integration, regression, and performance testing.
• Ensure high availability, resilience, and uptime of digital platforms through proactive monitoring and root cause analysis.
• Lead continuous testing and quality automation efforts as part of the SDLC.
Security & Compliance
• Ensure adherence to PCI DSS, GDPR/CCPA, and secure coding practices.
• Support vulnerability remediation, system hardening, and compliance audits in collaboration with Security and Compliance teams.
Qualifications
Technical & Delivery Experience
• 8–10 years in software engineering/digital commerce, with 4+ years in a leadership role.
• Deep understanding of front-end and back-end development using JavaScript (React/Node/jQuery), Python, .NET, PHP, or Java.
• Experience with third-party systems such as payment gateways (Braintree, PayPal), tax engines (Avalara), CRM/ESP platforms (HubSpot, Klaviyo), and ERP/OMS platforms.
• Proven track record leading cloud-based, API-driven architectures and high-availability platforms.
Leadership Competencies
• Demonstrated ability to build and scale collaborative engineering teams in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
• Clear history of developing and mentoring team members, with a people-first mindset.
• Comfortable facilitating architecture/design discussions, resolving technical blockers, and making pragmatic trade-offs.
• Effective communicator who can bridge technical and non-technical audiences and build trust across departments.
Agile Expertise
• Strong knowledge of SAFe Agile, including PI Planning, team cadence alignment, backlog refinement, and Lean Portfolio Management.
• Experience working across multiple agile teams, coaching teams through agile maturity, and measuring agile health.
Education & Certifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred.
• Preferred certifications: SAFe Program Consultant (SPC), Certified Scrum Professional (CSP), Cloud Architect (AWS/GCP/Azure), or similar.
