Job Description

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Warren Technical Center in Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum.

We are the Physical eCommerce Software Engineering team within the Digital Products Engineering (DPE) organization at GM. Our team is responsible for GM’s global B2C and B2B eCommerce solutions for physical products such as Parts & Accessories, as well as backend services supporting GM Energy products including home chargers and charger adapters.

We work closely with the Accessories Marketing and CCA teams to drive online sales through our platform, delivering an end-to-end, scalable, and innovative digital experience. Our mission is to continuously improve the customer experience, expand to new business lines, and explore marketplace opportunities.

The Role


As a Senior Development Engineer, you will lead the design and development of next-generation applications, shape user experiences, and mentor engineers. You will play a critical role in planning, design, architecture, and execution—helping GM deliver seamless digital commerce for millions of customers worldwide.

  • Lead the design, development, and optimization of user interfaces for GM’s eCommerce and energy solutions.

  • Write secure, scalable, and maintainable code with unit testing, automation, and CI/CD validation.

  • Weigh architectural trade-offs, applying synchronous and asynchronous design patterns.

  • Mentor junior engineers, lead code reviews, and establish engineering best practices.

  • Collaborate with product managers, architects, and engineers to deliver seamless customer experiences.

  • Drive backend API and SQL performance optimization, ensuring high availability and reliability.

  • Create and manage documentation deliverables including technical specifications, data mapping, and workflow diagrams.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or 8+ years equivalent work experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in full-stack development with a focus on eCommerce fulfillment, order management, and third-party integrations.

  • 3+ years contributing to architecture, documentation, and system design.

  • Proficiency in Test Driven Development (unit tests, automation test cases, CI/CD validation).

  • Experience with Java, Java Frameworks, messaging systems, IBM/Atlassian products, Azure services, and CI/CD platforms.

  • Strong understanding of GraphQL, microservices, RESTful APIs, and webhooks.

  • Demonstrated ability to debug, test, and deliver production-quality solutions.

  • Enthusiasm for influencing engineering culture and mentoring others.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.

  • 8+ years of experience in full-stack development.

  • 5+ years of architectural and system design experience.

  • Expertise with eCommerce platforms (OMS, inventory, payments, CMS, CRM, analytics, optimization).

  • Familiarity with observability tools (Datadog, Kibana) and automation tools (Playwright, BrowserStack).

  • Hands-on experience with IBM OMS Sterling, Kafka, IBM MQ, Pulsar, Azure Topics.

  • Proficiency in ReactJS, NextJS, and modern JavaScript (ES2020+).

  • Knowledge of multiple back-end languages (C#, Java, Python) and databases (MySQL, MongoDB).

  • Experience with Shopify builds, integrations, and template modifications.

  • Strong mentoring and coaching background.
